The Deep Read
for Lawyers

I help lawyers remember who they are beyond their training.

You’ve spent years learning how to think like a lawyer. What if that’s the part of you keeping you stuck?

This is for lawyers who’ve realized that the life they’ve built
is no longer quite the life they want.

  • You’ve built a successful legal career, but it no longer feels fully like yours or you’re surprised by how little it satisfies you.

  • You’re considering leaving your firm, changing your practice, going solo, or making another significant professional change.

  • You want to evolve your sense of how to be a lawyer without leaving the profession but can’t quite see your way forward.

Whether you’re a successful but unhappy lawyer, a lawyer at a professional crossroads or a lawyer who wants to transform how they relate to lawyering, I can help you.

The Deep Read for Lawyers

This is an 9-week exploration of the person beneath the professional identity you’ve spent years constructing.

As a lawyer, you’ve learned to analyze, manage risk, and build arguments. Sometimes those are the very skills that are now in the way of your next step—where feeling, intuition, and embracing uncertainty may be what’s called for.

I’ll help you see what you can’t yet see on your own—what’s trying to emerge through you from beneath the stories, beliefs, and identities you’ve forged around being a lawyer. Very often, you’ll discover that the question you’ve been asking yourself isn’t the one you need to answer to move forward.

When that happens, you might discover instead:

  • A pattern you hadn’t seen.

  • A possibility you’ve been dismissing.

  • A desire you’ve suppressed or forgotten.

  • A concrete action you’ve been avoiding.

From there, we work together to formulate a plan for you to navigate change and evolve your identity. The work is both philosophical and practical.

The Structure and Time Commitment

Our work together will be 4 hour-long conversations spaced over roughly 9 weeks (with email support in between).

This is a highly personalized exploration of what’s possible when you’re no longer limited by what you think a lawyer must be. The topics will include life philosophy, time, and identity. The direction of our conversations will ultimately be led by the support you need, but the general structure is as follows:

Conversation 1: The Gap (Between the Lawyer You Are Now and The One You Might Become)

We begin with the gap between the lawyer you are today and the identity you sense is possible. We’ll talk about what you want for your life, what you’ve tried already, what holds you back, and what you’d like to achieve together. I’ll share how you what my intuition says about your desire for change.

We close by setting a clear intention and some initial steps for you to take.

Conversation 2: The Loop (How Thinking Like a Lawyer Traps You)

We look at what has transpired in the interim, and in particular, how resistance, procrastination, and a desire to change goals may have emerged, along with any insights you’ve had.

We’ll look at any beliefs connected to your identity that want to keep you where you are. In particular, we consider how “thinking like a lawyer” can be the very obstacle to the change you need.

Conversation 3: The Opening (What Becomes Possible When You Start Seeing Differently)

We explore more deeply what’s possible when you stop living from the identity you’ve constructed. It’s not about creating a better version of the same self. It’s about discovering what’s possible when you are not limited by your lawyer training.

We continue to refine your intention and the steps you’re taking to evolve your professional identity.

Conversation 4: The Bridge (The Path Toward Becoming a New Lawyer)

We look back at the 9 weeks leading up to this point and ahead to what’s next for you. We distill what has been most essential in this process, which often turns out to be less about the concrete goal and more about the way you’ve been thinking about identity and change.

We’ll leave by providing you with a bridge forward to the next step that now emerges—something you couldn’t see at the beginning of our work.

Who Is This Work For?

You’re a thoughtful and skeptical lawyer.

You believe in logic and are allergic to jargon.

You want to think differently about your life without abandoning your capacity for reason.

You’re also willing to question who you are and what you know.

And you’re open to experimenting with new ways of seeing and being.

If the language of soul or intuition makes you immediately dismiss the work, this probably isn’t for you.

If you’re curious about what might become possible when you look beyond the identity you’ve constructed, we may have something to explore together.

Yes, intuition is part of this work.

I use intuition to see, feel, and know patterns and possibilities that may be difficult for you to perceive from inside your own experience.

You don’t have to share my understanding of intuition or spirituality.

You don’t have to believe anything in particular.

You do need to be curious and open-minded, which also means you need to be willing to explore the possibility that your usual ways of knowing aren’t the whole story.

If you’d like some evidence of how people who have worked with me feel about my abilities, you can read the testimonials on my website, such as this one:

As someone with a background in high-level negotiation, corporate environments, and finance, I tend to approach people and situations from a highly analytical perspective. What immediately stood out to me about Patrick was his rare combination of intellect, emotional depth, and intuitive precision he brings to his work. His background as a lawyer gives him an exceptional ability to listen carefully, read between the lines, and guide conversations with clarity and focus, while his intuitive insight adds another dimension that is remarkably accurate and deeply impactful. What makes Patrick truly exceptional, however, is his sincerity and empathy. He has an extraordinary ability to make people feel understood while also helping them see themselves and their situations more clearly. Our conversations have consistently been thoughtful, grounding, insightful, and genuinely transformative. — A.N.

One Experiment. Ten Lawyers.

I’m exploring how helpful the Deep Read is for those who are trained to think the way lawyers are.

I’m looking for 10 lawyers who are at a professional and personal crossroads and are willing to undertake the work seriously and give me candid feedback about the experience.

Begin to Examine Your Life.

This work requires openness and a willingness to experiment with new ways of seeing and doing. You don't need to share my beliefs, but you do need to be genuinely curious about exploring beyond your current way of seeing yourself.  You will not be asked to do anything that challenges your religious or spiritual beliefs—like prayer to an entity you don’t believe in.

Use my calendar below to book your first conversation. We’ll schedule the second and third conversations at a later point.
